KOA "Glamping"

The weekend of August 1, we went camping (or "glamping" as Jered named it) at the KOA campground in Williamsburg, VA. We had a 1 room cabin with AC and a basic TV, but no kitchen or water facilities. The cabin had a wonderful deck with a picnic table and was set in the woods at the back of the campground. Friday night we checked in and got everything set up. They showed movies under the stars each night, and we watched Winnie the Pooh Friday night. Saturday morning we went to the charity pancake breakfast at the community pool house/game room. After breakfast, we played with the life-sized chess set, visited the swings at the park, then got a sluicing kit and the kids got to pan for gems and gold. We went swimming in the afternoon, then roasted hot dogs and s'mores for supper at our cabin's fire ring. Sunday morning we drove back home. It was a fun weekend. The kids keep asking when we're going back, and Jered said "we have to do this again before we move." So it was a hit, and we all enjoyed our glamping experience at the KOA.

Will's 8th Birthday

This past Friday, August 7, was Will's 8th birthday. In lieu of a friends party, this year we had a smaller family celebration with Uncle Ian, who flew in from Seattle. Jered got off work early on Friday, and we went bowling. After bowling, Will got to blow out his candles on his minion cupcake cake that we ordered from the commissary. For supper, I made his favorite meal of spaghetti and meatballs. Saturday and Sunday were very relaxing. We mostly stayed home, watched movies, played with the kids, and made some yummy food. Uncle Ian went to church with us and out for Mexican food and frozen yogurt before flying home Sunday evening. Will had a great birthday weekend. He really enjoyed opening his presents from family around the country, and especially having his uncle here to celebrate with him!
